Chapter Eleven

Sullivan

When I'd first met Kingston months ago after one of my fights, he seemed to have his shit together and have a real opportunity for me on the west coast. Sure, I'd been winning all my fights within a collective of packs that fought for entertainment, but it had been just that. Wolves only.

After a few trips to see me fight, he offered me something I couldn't refuse. Financial freedom and no pack rules and regulations. But after seeing him brush off the idea of a fox shifter spying on us, I wasn't sold on the idea of joining his little fight crew.

For running something that could get him and everyone else in serious hot water, he shouldn't have hesitated when it came to taking care of the fox.

Instead of driving back to my place, I circled back around to the private access road and parked before the cameras and gates started. It was secure as fuck even on the road, so how the hell did a fox get into a secure building made of metal?

Taking my clothes off, I wondered if I should just let it go, but something didn't feel right, and I intended to find out what.

My hands dropped to the ground as I shifted, and I took off into the trees, back toward the warehouse.

That fox had to come from somewhere and at the very least I'd get a good feel for the area.

It had been a few weeks since I'd shifted, and my muscles stretched as I ran. There wasn't a freer feeling in the world than the dirt and leaves under my paws and the whoosh of the air through my hair.

I neared the building and sniffed the air. The only detectable scent was coming from the door where Kingston had carried her out.

Circling the building, I sniffed and watched the ground for any signs of her. Maybe she had been living in the building for a while.

I was ready to give up and head back to my car when I heard the faintest sound of a truck horn from a direction the highway wasn't in. My ears perked up, and I ran in that direction, pausing to listen.

There was something in that direction, and I continued, making sure to sniff as I went.

About two miles from where I'd started, I caught the scent of the fox. It was odd, concentrated in just one spot, and I went right to it with ease.

What were you up to, little fox?

A flash of color caught my eye in the bushes, and I nearly yipped from excitement as I got closer and found shoes and a dress neatly folded. It was no accident she'd ended up in the warehouse.

The sound of idling trucks drew my attention. She was probably parked where the sounds were coming from, but her scent disappeared again. Maybe she could fly. Was she a kitsune? Nothing would surprise me since I grew a tail and all that.

I had nowhere else to be, so I decided to scope out the parking lot and then wait to see if she came back.
